With an approximate distance of 14 kilometers and a duration of between 4 and 5 hoursThis route is an unbeatable gateway to the municipality of Llanes.

The alternate stage cliffs, pristine beaches, fishing villages and rural landscapes that reflect the essence of eastern Asturias. It is an itinerary of low difficulty, suitable for all types of hikers, which combines stretches of path along the sea with rural roads that cross meadows and small, charming villages.

The start of stage 1 Bustio Pendueles is located at Bustio, at the mouth of the Deva River, just 25 km from Llanes.

  • 🚗 By car from Llanes: is accessed by the A-8 (Cantabrian Highway) direction Santander, taking the Exit 272 Bustio/ColombresIn the center of Bustio, there is free parking near the port and the town center. Estimated time: 25 minutes.
  • ???? By train (FEVE): Both Bustio and Pendueles have a station on the line Oviedo–Santander, which makes it easier to travel the stage without needing your own vehicle.

The end of stage 1 of the Coastal Path is in pendueles, where there is also a train station, allowing you to comfortably return to the starting point or continue to the next stage of the trail.

La Stage 1 Bustio Pendueles of the Coastal Path It is a route between 19 and 22 kilometers which connects the border town of Bustio with the village of penduelesIt's a long stage, but without significant elevation gains, where hikers can enjoy a mosaic of landscapes that combine wild nature, historical heritage, and the essence of rural Asturias.

🔹 Section 1: Bustio – Pimiango (approx. 5 km)

The tour starts at Bustio, on the banks of the Deva River, the gateway to Asturias from Cantabria. After leaving the town center and the fishing port, The path continues along rural tracks between meadows and farmhouses, until connecting with the old one Camino RealIn this first section, places of great cultural and scenic value stand out, such as the ruins of the Tina Monastery and Hermitage of San Emeterio, located in an environment of eucalyptus forests and cliffs. Nearby is the Cueva del Pindal, declared a World Heritage Site for its Paleolithic cave paintings, and the Pimiango viewpoint, from where you can enjoy spectacular views of the sea and the Picos de Europa.

🔹 Section 2: Pimiango – Buelna (approx. 7 km)

From Pimiango, the path heads inland to cross meadows and villages, always maintaining the proximity of the Cantabrian Sea. The landscape is soft and green, with paths between stone walls and pastures. Slowly we descend until we reach Buelna, a picturesque rural town whose main attraction is the Beach of Buelna, a small, wild sandy beach nestled between meadows and cliffs. It's an ideal place to stop and enjoy the tranquility of the surroundings.

🔹 Section 3: Buelna – Pendueles (approx. 7 km)

The last section connects Buelna with pendueles, alternating coastal paths with inland trails. In this section, the hiker crosses the Cabra River and advances between hay meadows and livestock pastures, with the silhouette of the Sierra del Cuera in the background. As you advance, spectacular panoramas of the coastline appear, with small cliffs, hidden coves and the imposing profile of the Castro de Santiuste, a rocky islet that emerges from the sea and becomes one of the most photogenic landmarks of the stage.

The tour ends at the Pendueles Beach, a wide, wild sandy beach that announces the proximity of the town of the same name. After gently ascending along rural roads, you reach the village of Pendueles, the end of the stage, where traditional Asturian architecture and the calm surroundings provide the perfect finishing touch to this first day of the coastal path.
